Tisza Party Emerges as Leading Opposition Force in Hungary

The Tisza Party is supported by 26% of decided voters, behind Fidesz at 39%, and ahead of the alliance of the Democratic Coalition, Socialist and Dialogue parties, according to the latest survey by Závecz Research, commissioned by RTL.

Other parties are hovering around the 5% threshold for entry into the European Parliament, with support levels of 6% for Our Homeland, 4% for Momentum, and 3% for the Two-Tailed Dog Party.

According to calculations by news website 24 and the Political Capital think tank, this will translate into ten MEP seats for Fidesz, six for the Tisza Party, four for the centre-left alliance, and one for Our Homeland.

Among all eligible voters, 28% favour Fidesz, about 2.2 million people, 19%, or 1.5 million prefer the Tisza party, and 12% support the centre-left alliance, about 1 million people.

Another 24% of respondents did not express a preference.

The results are based on a representative survey of 1,000 Hungarian citizens aged 18 and above during May 2 -10.
