U.S. Ambassador Kounalakis Visits Primavera Foundation
"On April 19, Ambassador Kounalakis, accompanied by Mrs. Vera Blinken, wife of former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Donald Blinken, visited the Primavera Foundation and its operational partner MaMMA Klinika in Budapest’s 2nd District. Primavera was founded in 2000 by Mrs. Blinken and put into operation Hungary’s first mobile breast cancer screening bus.

Since its establishment, Primavera’s mobile screening bus has provided breast cancer screenings to over 140,000 women at 174 locations all over Hungary – many in remote rural areas who otherwise would not have easy access to screening facilities.

During the visit, Sylvia Madai, the Director of the Primavera Foundation, briefed Ambassador Kounalakis on Primavera’s accomplishments over the past decade, outlined the foundation’s plans for the future, and gave a tour of MaMMa Klinika’s Budapest facility.

Ambassador Kounalakis congratulated Ms. Madai and Mrs. Blinken for Primavera’s outstanding work, and highlighted that Primavera has been one of the true pioneers in Hungary helping to remove the social stigma associated with breast cancer and, at the same time, providing the diagnostic services essential for early detection and treatment.
