Hungary's Homeless Face Harassment, Force
Frequent police checks for ID, harassment and even use of physical force make life difficult for homeless people, a poll conducted by the human rights group for homeless people A Város Mindenkié (The City Belongs to Everyone) has revealed.

During a one-year survey some 400 homeless people in Budapest were interviewed. Of these 83% say the homeless are affected by some kind of discrimination, mostly from the young and pedestrians, while one third blamed public area inspectors and close to one fourth cited police officers.

The respondents have been homeless for seven years on average and close to one fourth of them for more than ten years. One third live in abandoned buildings, huts and tents.

The survey was conducted by nearly 20 recruited homeless persons who were given professional training.
