Two athletes attached to the MTK sports club were seriously injured in a melee in Szigethalom, Pest county on New Year's Eve. A 17-year-old boy from Szigethalom suspected of repeatedly stabbing a wrestler in the chest was questioned and taken into custody, police said.

MTK boxing officials said about 30 people attacked the two athletes with knives and stabbed them while they were on the ground.

The wrestler remains in critical condition. The other athlete, a boxer, was also in critical danger, but his condition has improved.
