Xpat Opinion: Rakoczi Ut Is New Reconstruction Priority In Budapest, Investment Opportunity
The busy and polluted east-west throughfare of Budapest, Rakoczi ut, has significantly deteriorated with the steady increase of traffic. The streetfront shops of the once beautiful buildings extending from Erzsebet Bridge to Keleti Railway Station are neglected and vacant. While a number of streets have been wonderfully transformed over the past years, Rakoczi remains a noisy and dusty reminder that unbridled car traffic in the city kills real estate value.

Currently it is a street where the bitter cold of winter and the unbearable summer heat are both intensified by the constant rush of heavy traffic. However a recent statement by the municipality claims that Rakoczi ut is the next priority in the list of infrastructural reconstruction projects, where reduced car traffic, bicycle lanes, lines of trees, sophisticated bus lanes, and wide sidewalks (where cafes could spill over in good weather, can you hear the birds singing?) would ensure the environment is once again friendly and human.

Ferenciek Square and Baross Square (Keleti) is already under construction, Astoria, in between, will also be completed soon after. Property prices are shockingly low now, so the area is definitely set to be a high growth zone within the next three years.
