Escape From Budapest To Samui: Bhundhari Chaweng Beach Resort

At this brand new resort, which opened last November, I happily stayed in a Seaside Bungalow. This comfortable woodern lodging, set 5m from the beach, is delightfully designed in keeping with Southern Thai traditions. My stand-alone bungalow was near to the beach-bar, which suited me fine given the lovely hot temperatures, friendly waitress services, and reasonable prices for such a quality resort.
Two similar semi-detached bungalows are conveniently positioned right in front of the beach pool, and each of the 14 bungalows in total has its own cute terrace.
Inside the relatively large Seaside Bungalow’s you’ll find tasteful furnishings such a four-poster bed, and if you take a laptop there's a handy desk - plus the free WIFI works well everywhere. Modern in-room facilities including a flat-screen cable TV, mini-bar fridge, safety deposit box, and the en-suite bathroom features a bathtub with shower and free toiletries.
The Seaside Bungalows sit at the peaceful southern-end of Chaweng beach, they’re in easy reach of the beach-side pool - with its handy swim-up bar- and are all surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens and water features.
There are a few steps leading up to each Seaside Bungalow, and their slightly elevated position helps provide lovely views from some of the main windows. The biggest section of the resort - due to open soon – has Deluxe Rooms designed in a contemporary Moroccan style, all set around a large swimming pool. The newest part of the hotel has an elevator to facilitate easy access for older guests, and anyone in a wheelchair. The whole resort is suitable for guests of all ages, including families with young children – pools here are suitable for kids too.
This new 4* property is located a short drive, or easy walk, from Samui’s main social hub, Chaweng’s shopping and nightlife centre, also its conveniently close (5 km) to the airport. Since Samui’s award winning airport opened in 1989, the island’s growth has been extraordinary, and this tropical paradise is now internationally known as one of the best holiday destinations in the world.
At the resort a quality buffet-breakfast starts the day off well, guests can take their choice from a range of local and international morning refreshments, and can eat by the pool or even at tables on the beach. Afterwards, a breezy stroll along the beach, or simply standing in the shade while watching the local fishermen at work, are examples of the simple pleasures awaiting guests. There are also various beach recreation options around if you fancy engaging in an active range of water-sports during the day.
Sunbathing on the beach, and around the pool, is a popular choice of many holiday-makers of course, and so naturally the resort has a plentiful supply of sun-loungers and clean towels. To make life easy the beach-bar offers good food option for a lunch snack, and a tasty dinner. The resort has it’s own spa too, to allow you to easily pamper yourself, perhaps before bed after a full day of simple yet special pleasures.
Bhundhari Chaweng Beach Resort is owned and managed by the Orapin Group, with the philosophy of not only serving-up the best of Thai hospitality for guests, but to do so in environmentally friendly way. This vision is sincerely underpinned by the fact that the Orapin Group also operates ‘Wongpanit Koh Samui’, the local waste recycling station, to help ensure a sustainable future for Koh Samui. Follow this link for an interview with Mr. Somchai Sangchaysuppakorn, the resort owner and Orapin Group managing director.
László from Tatabánya, one of their first paying guests from Hungary, had this to say after a stay with a group of friends: “Wonderful panorama, the bungalow is really 5 meters from the ocean. Nice pool bar in front of the bungalow. The place is very nice, calm but still close to the Chaweng central walking street. Good friendly staff, helpful everytime and in every situation. Very good value for the money. “
I also found the hotel staff to be very good, they’re ready to arrange everything for guests, from bike rental to laundry services, and even a romantic candlelite-dinner on the beach. László’s also right about the value for money proposition, just like the service standards that’s also very high. This straightforward review is in keeping with the uncomplicated nature of this quality resort, which provides everything you need to enjoy the simple yet devine pleasures of Koh Samui, all for a down-to-earth price.

Getting There:
As you probably know, there are several daily air connections from Budapest to Bangkok. From there, Asia's best Regional airline, Bangkok Airways, operates several daily flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui. Flying to Samui is far more convenient, and efficient when taking time into consideration, than using a bus / train and ferry combination.
The 'boutique business lounge' at Koh Samui Airport is outstanding, therefore upgrading is worth considering to enjoy a range of relaxing and refreshing services, including a complimentary meal and drinks. The latest additional to Samui Airport is the "Soul to Sole" spa where passengers can loosen up with a traditional Thai massage before boarding their flight.
Bangkok Airways, celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2013, currently flies to over 20 destinations around Thailand and overseas. Justifiably, the airline was recently named top 20 most colorful airlines in the world by Skift, USA.
