Dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the prominent music venue BIM Huis, Amsterdam, BMC launches a series of concerts by renowned Dutch jazz ensembles. The first two events are ESTAFEST (Mete Erker – saxophone, Oene van Geel – viola and cajon, Anton Goudsmit – guitar, Jeroes van Vliet – piano) on 4th April, and INTERCONTINENTAL TRIO (Joris Teepe – contrabass, Tim Armacost – saxophone, Shingo Okudaira – drums) on 9th April.

On 4th April -BIM40 - Estafest (NL)

Four high profile improvisers of the Dutch jazz and improv scene have teamed up and formed ESTAFEST. In this unusual line up, these musicians combine their distinctive instrumental skills and sound, wrapped up in brilliant short pieces, which are shaped on stage. They actually create an atmosphere in which both the audience and the musicians go with the flow of the moment.

The result is cutting edge music, exciting, hilarious and breathtaking. Anyone who has seen the group was surprised, moved, nurtured and inspired. Estafest’s second album, Eno Supo (2014), was nominated for the ‘Dutch Grammy’, the Edison. in the category National Jazz. The follow-up of their debut ESTAFEST Live! (2011), Eno Supo is Estafest’s first studio-recording with compositions of all 4 musicians.

Mete Erker is considered one of Holland's most distinctive saxophonists. Besides his work with an impressive list of greats, among others the David Liebman Group and Senegalese master drummer Doudou N'Diaye Rose, he is the driving force behind the saxophone quartet Artvark, the Mete Erker Trio, and not in the least ESTAFEST.

Oene van Geel is known as a composer and for his work with the contemporary string quartet ZAPP4 and for his own projects, such as The Nordanians and OOOO. In 2011 Oene was selected to join Take Five Europe, a masterclass and residency for the top 10 of Europe's emerging jazzscene. In 2013 Oene was awarded the prestigious VPRO Boy Edgar Prize, the Dutch jazz award.

Anton Goudsmit is known for his current group the Ploctones and played for years in the very popular New Cool Collective band. As a guest musician he performed with innumerable bands and artists. In 2010 he was awarded with the VPRO Boy Edgar Prizeand in that same year he received the Duiveltje Award, the Dutch pop award for best guitarist.

Jeroen van Vliet has grown into an established pianist who is much in demand. Jeroen is part of various projects of Eric Vloeimans. Furthermore he is an outstanding composer. In 2008 North Sea Jazz selected him for the festival's composition project. Jeroen has played for over 20 years with ESTAFEST saxophonist Mete Erker.

On 9th April  - The Intercontinental Jazz Trio (Tim Armacost – USA, North America; Joris Teepe – The Netherlands, Europe and Shingo Okudaira – Japan, Asia) first got together as the house band of a weekly jam-session in New York City in 1995. Because of the magical and unique interaction between the musicians, they decided to go on as a collective group, and to begin touring internationally.

The powerful ideas and different backgrounds of each musician have led to an intercontinental mix of modern jazz music. Each member composes for the band, and the group also takes pride in it's unusual approach to songs from the traditional jazz repertoire. Tim Armacost is the binding element of the trio. He grew up in Japan and lived in Amsterdam in the late 80’s, where he was teaching at the Conservatory.

The trio is currently celebrating the second printing of it's CD Live at the Bimhuis, and the 2015 release of a new album Evidence. The trio has enjoyed great success on it's recent tours in Japan, (October of 2012) and Pakistan, (March of 2013), European tour (March of 2014).
