Festival On The Street Of Photography In Budapest, 9 - 12 October
You are guaranteed to get even closer to photography, which is undeniably one of the most popular genres of contemporary art. Between October 9 and 12, visitors are welcome at the Capa Center (8 Nagymező Street) and the Mai Manó House (20 Nagymező Street) during the CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival. All day long, with extended opening hours, the two institutions offer a wide range of programs for all ages without admission.

As a highlight of the festival (and its only ticketed program), photography-enthusiasts will also have the chance to attend pre-premiere screenings of Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado’s film The Salt of the Earth about the world-famous photographer Sebastião Salgado.

Admission to the Capa Center and the Mai Manó House, as well as to the programs are free!

(The only program at the Photo Street Festival where you have to buy an entry ticket is the first showing of the film entitled Salt of the Earth by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, taking place before the European first showing.)

11am – 11pm Projections of images and movies, interactive performances – be ready to get closer!
11am – 7pm: These are Our Pictures! – Amateurs and professionals exhibit their works in a DIY-fashion on panels provided by the Capa Center. Exhibitors, who were selected by a random draft, are expected to bring their ready-made prints, install the exhibition, and even present it to the public by giving an opening speech.

The Capa Center joins the Everyday Project initiative by kicking off the @everydaybudapest Instagram feed and inviting 12 Hungarian photographers – Orsi Ajpek, Ákos Stiller, Sándor Csudai, Bálint Hirling, László Mudra, János Kummer, Krisztián Bódis, Zsolt Hlinka, Balázs Szabó, Péter Máté, Levente Hernádi and Máté Nándorfi – to take pictures with their mobile phones during the Festival on the Street of Photography. Their images will be published online and projected in the space during the festival.

11am – 7pm: Costumed photo-session in Budapest-set scenes – Turn-of-the-century and entertaining costumes with the artists of La Belle Epoque.

5pm From Capa about Capa – reading and performing excerpts from books on and by Capa and his contemporaries

6pm Photo-associations in the language of dance – featuring Ferenc Fehér. Reflecting on images and the mood from the turn-of-the century and recent years, contemporary dancers play associative games in the language of dance and movement in the exhibition halls of the Capa Center and the Mai Manó House.

7pm Kováts Kriszta Kvintett – a concert with songs about 20th-century Budapest legends, places, and people. Kriszta Kovats- vocals; Lazar – keyboards, violin; Zoltan Schneider – guitar; Tibor Csuhai Barna – bass; Guszty Perger – percussion

During the last forty years, the photographer Sebastião Salgado has been travelling through the continents, in the footsteps of an ever changing humanity. He has witnessed the major events of our recent history; international conflicts, starvations and exodus… He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of the wild fauna and flora, of grandiose landscapes: a huge photographic project which is a tribute to the planet’s beauty. Sebastião’s Salgado’s life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his last journeys, and by Wim Wenders, a photographer himself.
