Kocsis Demands Drug Tests For Politicians, Journalists & Youth
Eighth District mayor and party communications director Máté Kocsis suggested on the weekend that compulsory drug tests be introduced for children aged 12-18, elected politicians and journalists. The Fidesz caucus will consider the proposal at its meeting today.

In response, Dialogue for Hungary MP Tímea Szabó proposed on Facebook that Kocsis should instead introduce a breathalyser outside the Fidesz and Christian Democrat offices as MPs leave and enter Parliament.

Together said the proposal is not only out of touch with reality but irrational. A developed drug prevention program rather than a police state is what is needed, the party said.

A governing MP speaking anonymously told Népszabadság that he hopes that Fidesz is not trying with the proposal to divert attention from corruption cases, because if that was the goal, the idea is worse than the internet tax.

The story was widely covered in global media, as the Associated Press report was taken up by Fox News and ABC News, among many others.
