Trams 4 & 6 In Budapest Are Running On Shortened Routes For Circa 2 Months
Due to the construction works of the interconnected tram network in Buda, the refurbishment of the track section of tram lines 4 and 6 between Aradi utca and Tátra utca on the Grand Boulevard and the warranted repair work of the Margaret bridge, trams 4 and 6 are running on shortened routes during the daytime and are replaced by buses at night on the full length from 21 March 2015 for circa two months.

Due to the construction works, traffic restrictions will be applied on the Grand Boulevard, Margit körút and in their surroundings.

From 22 March until circa the middle of May, trams 4 and 6 are running between their South Buda terminuses to Oktogon M during the daytime and replacement buses are in service between Széll Kálmán tér M and Király utca.

At night between 0:00 and 4:00, replacement buses are operating on the full length of route of tram line 6. On certain sections on the Grand Boulevard and Margit körút, a bus lane is designated for tram replacement buses, while on other sections of the route there is a shared lane for buses and cars, therefore there might be heavy traffic in both directions on the route on Margit körút–Tölgyfa utca–Margit híd–Szent István körút–Teréz körút.

Between Széll Kálmán tér and Nyugati tér, traffic lights are reprogrammed providing longer green signals for the traffic. Despite, BKK Centre for Budapest Transport asks you to detour the Grand Boulevard until the middle of May, if it is possible. Please take metro line M2, instead of trams 4 and 6 or if you travel by car, BKK recommends that you go either to Árpád bridge or to Erzsébet bridge, instead of Margit bridge.

Due to the inconvenience caused by the road closures and public transport restrictions, we kindly ask you to be patient. Owing to the results of the current developments, a new, state-of-the-art, well-arranged, accessible green community area with high service level will be created on the premises of the current Széll Kálmán tér. Besides, owing to the coordination of works, public transport in that area will be renewed as a result of the construction of the interconnected tram network in Buda.

On 21 March 2015, complex, coordinated refurbishment and maintenance works started on the routes of tram lines 4 and 6 and along the routes of lines between Széll Kálmán tér and Aradi utca. At Margit híd, budai hídfő, in the surroundings of Keleti Károly utca and Széna tér and at Széll Kálmán tér, there are on-going closures and traffic restrictions due to the track construction of the interconnected tram network in Buda.

In coordination with the construction of the interconnected tram network in Buda, BKV implements urgent track refurbishment on the routes of trams 4 and 6 between Aradi utca and Tátra utca. Due to replacement of tracks constructed in the ‘90s, the speed limit introduced on this section due to the deteriorated conditions of tracks will be lifted. In parallel to these actions, dilatation will be replaced by the executor of the bridge refurbishment (2009–2011) with guarantee.

Refurbishment of Széll Kálmán tér is continued: due to utilities and road construction, on the section of Várfok utca between Vérmező út and Csaba utca, only the lane to Csaba utca will be open to one-way traffic for several months due to construction. Until the middle of April, no further significant changes can be expected in road traffic in the surroundings of Széll Kálmán tér.
