Normafa Development To Go Ahead In Budapest
A tourism development project is likely to go ahead in the Buda hills, as a result of a 12th District referendum on Sunday in which 28% of eligible voters turned out. Of those, 81% voted in favour of the plan to build skiing and other winter sports facilities in the forested Normafa area.

As voter participation was less than 50% the referendum is not legally binding, but the district’s Fidesz mayor Zoltán Pokorni had announced earlier that he would accept the outcome “even if only 15 people turn out to vote”.

Pokorni said the majority of local residents agree with development projects approved by the local council.

The process will take several years, but several projects such as putting benches, playgrounds and paths for pedestrians will begin in the coming weeks.
