Chico & The Gypsies, Margaret Island Budapest, 22 August
In recent years, it was the Buena Vista Social Club that brought a real Mediterranean atmosphere to the Open Air Theatre at Margaret Island. But this year on August 22nd, the founder of the Gypsy Kings’ band, Chico & the Gypsies, will guarantee this feeling.

This year's world sensation at the Budapest Summer Festival will be the orchestra by the founder of the Gipsy Kings. Chico & the Gypsies is one of the world’s most important crossover formations, preceding even the Buena Vista Social Club, which dazzled the audience at the Open-Air Theatre at Margaret Island last summer as part of their farewell tour.

Founder, Jalloul "Chico" Bouchiki was born into an African family, but grew up in France. He started playing the guitar at the age of sixteen, and then met José Reyes, with whom he founded the band the Gypsy Kings. Chico is a co-author of world famous hits like Bamboleo, Djobi Djoba, and Ben Ben Maria. In 1992 he created his own band, which also became world famous.

Chico & the Gypsies play music built up on the fusion of flamenco, gypsy and Afro-Cuban styles. The songs are sung in Spanish with Latin melodies and conjure a hot seaside atmosphere onto the stage. The band has joint recordings with several artists and is the first French band to become Platinum in the USA. With its fiery temperament their best-known song Bamboleo, is the greatest gypsy anthem of all time.

The band known for creating a sensational atmosphere will appear at Margaret Island for the first time. The eight outstanding guitar virtuosos will be accompanied by a violinist and two percussionists. This summer’s must-see outdoor concert will take place on August 22, 2015 and it’s worth it to purchase tickets now. The Early Bird campaign for the best sites offers a discount of 40% in February and 30% in March for "early risers" for online or in person ticket purchases.
