Budapest Olympics Referendum Bid Challenged
The referendum initiatives on Budapest’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics and the City Park Museum Quarter, approved by the Budapest Election Committee last month, have been challenged by an anonymous individual and will therefore be judged by a court.

If the court approves the questions, then activists can begin collecting signatures of support in late January.

The referendum initiators, journalist Katalin Erdélyi of transparency website Átlátszó and 14th District mayor Gergely Karácsony, will campaign together.

Both are asking all opposition parties, including Jobbik, to lend their support.

Organisers will have to collect 140,000 signatures from Budapest residents to force a referendum.
