Police To Be More Sensitive To Homeless People
Budapest police and the Helsinki Committee concluded an accord under which police will reduce harassment of homeless people on the streets. The NGO outlined the agreement at a press conference in the Blaha Lujza tér underpass on Thursday.

Homeless supporters group A Város Mindenkié says that 59% of homeless people are stopped by police and asked for their identification papers once a month and 15% once a week.

Helsinki Committee co-president Kristóf András Kádár said the number of spot checks has declined in recent months.

Budapest Police officials were not present at the press briefing but have promised to introduce a more sensitive approach to homelessness in the training and extension training of officers.
