EC Proposal Could Impact Hungarians Working Abroad
The European Commission’s proposed revision of rules on posted workers could hamper the competitiveness of Hungarians working abroad, the business daily Világgazdaság said. According to the proposal posted workers are subject to equal sectoral average pay and working conditions as local workers.

The proposal would mostly affect about 200-300 Hungarian owned companies operating in Germany, Péter Morvai, the secretary of the Federation of Hungarian Building Constructors’ branch in Germany, told the paper.

The average wage these companies pay per hour is 14.45 euros, whereas under the EU proposal the average hourly wage should be a minimum of 18-19 euros in the sector which Hungarian contractors cannot offer, he said

The EC proposal would overall affect unfavourably 70,000 Hungarians working abroad, over half of whom work in Germany and a quarter of them in Austria, the paper said.
