World Music Concert Of Kang Eun-Il Haegeumplus, 25 April
Kang Eunil is one of the most distinctive Haegeum artists in Korea and is highly praised for her combining of traditional music with various genres. She is a musical pioneer who has established her reputation by her use of the Haegum to create 'crossover music'.

Ms. Kang has performed both domestically and internationally with world renowned artists and groups, such as Bobby McFerrin, Luciano Pavarotti, Quincy Jones, Pat Metheny, NewYork Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Orchestra, Turkey National Orchestra, KBS Korean Traditional Music Orchestra, Yoshida Brothers, and Salta Cello. Representing Korea, she also actively takes part in 'The World String Festival' in Japan.

Having made tremendous contributions to the popularization and globalization of Haegeum, she has opened a whole new context for this versatile instrument, it is not surprising that she has received several prominent recognitions for her work: KBS Korean Traditional Music Grand Prix, Korean National Assembly Culture and Media Grand Prix, 2005 Korean Culture and Art Committee Award, 2006 Ministry Culture and Tourism Artist Award, 2009 Korean Christian Culture and Arts Grand Prix…etc.

Kang Eunil & Haegeum Plus perform several genres with Haegeum and other Oriental and Western instruments. The music promotes communication beyond time and space. It is also a retrospective of Korean traditional music's past, creating the present toward the future.

His Korean New Music group attempts to reach a balance between Korean traditional music and modern age. Kang Eunil & Haegeum Plus, Yoshida Brothers of Japan and 12 Ladies Music Chambers of China are the most distinguished groups representing Asia with their own indigenous instruments. Kang Eunil & Haegeum Plus use Korean traditional music as their text and express pure crossover music spanning from Asia to the West. Kang’s music displays the Haegeum's potential and place in the global context. The Haegeum originally has a slow and rough tone.

However, Kang Eunil translates the tradition into a new music full of beautiful melodies and great temperance. Her music approaches us as a lyric poem. Her bowing, strong and gracious, will make her fans happy with renewed appreciation of Korean music's potential and give foreigners, who are unfamiliar with Korean music, an opportunity to share in a universal musical experience.

Haegeum is a traditional Korean instrument which has been played since the Goryeo Dynasty (A.D. 918~1392). Resembling a fiddle, it has a rod like body supporting two silk strings and is held vertically on the knee of the performer and played with a bow. The Haegeum creates a calm and gentle, yet powerful, sound, and has a variety of tones ranging close to two octaves. In the past, the Haegeum played a prominent role in Korean royal court ensembles and ceremonial music. Today, it is regarded as the most adaptable and versatile amongst all traditional Korean instruments and is used in various genres, including Western classical, jazz, and New music.
