Deutsch: Many Will Benefit From Digital Prosperity Programme Next Year
The government’s digital commissioner, Tamás Deutsch, has said that many Hungarians will benefit from the positive effects of the government’s Digital Prosperity Programme in 2017. He noted that VAT on internet services will be cut from 27% to 18% from January.

Deutsch told a press conference in Balatonfüred, in western Hungary, that monthly fees for the internet will fall thanks to a reduction in VAT on internet services. Internet costs are expected to decline by 7-10% in Hungary from January.

The reduced fee will enable far more people to use internet, he added. The commissioner also said that a Digital Prosperity Basic Package will be available from next January with a reduced price for those who have never used the internet.

In Hungary, 21 % of people between the ages of 16 and 74 - around 1.5 million people -- have had no access to the internet.
