New Season Begins At Sármellék Airport
The first charter flights arrived at Sármellék Héviz-Balaton Airport on the weekend from Düsseldorf, Berlin and Frankfurt, mayor Gábor Papp confirmed. Passenger traffic was 23,500 last year, which the airport plans to maintain in 2017, he added.

Guest nights at Héviz hotels in the first two months of the year rose from 122,000 to 135,000.

It is not clear whether Sármellék will receive charter flights from Russia this season, as Budapest and Vienna have increased flights, he said.

A delegation of the local government, which runs the airport, recently went to St. Petersburg, Tel Aviv and Sharm El-Sheikh for negotiations on adding new flights. Talks with the Israeli city are the most likely to bear fruit, Papp added.
