Construction Companies Often Ignore Labour Safety
The labour authority carried out inspections at 1,218 construction companies in June and July. Irregularities or illegal practices were found among 1,127 companies or 92.5% of the total.

Among the 11,122 workers inspected, 3,352 or 30.1% were engaged in irregular practices.

The authority also investigated tools and machinery finding that of 896 scaffoldings 456 were problematic in some way. With respect to the 2,130 hand tools examined, 213 did not conform to regulations.

On the positive side, water was provided to workers in almost every case and 96% of the time employees had a special place to rest.

The authority levied a total of Ft 9.5 million in fines for the noted irregularities.
