Despite expectations there was no traffic jam on Váci út, as most drivers chose escape routes. However, snarl-ups were reported on several alternative routes and streets in the 13th District.

Index wrote that sufficient information was provided and there were no traffic jams in areas such as Lehel tér, where shuttle buses turned back toward Újpest. Due to transfers travel times increased by about ten minutes.

Most alternative routes proved effective and only frequent transfers caused inconveniences, Index wrote.

On the first day the system of supplementing metros with shuttle buses passed the grade and apart from the efforts of BKK and BKV, the adequate preparation of commuters and the fine weather may have been instrumental, the website said.

Experts from BKK and BKV did their best to make sure that the upgrade of the M3 line entail the least possible snags, mayor István Tarlós told TV2 station yesterday morning. He said that the complete upgrade of the northern stretch of M3 line will probably take one year, but by the end of the upgrade the residents of Budapest will travel on a modern third metro line which will ensure safe public transport.
