EU Has ‘No More Patience’ For Hungary Govt’s Illiberal Policy
The European Commission and the European Parliament have “no more patience” for the illiberal policies pursued by the Hungarian government, a MEP of leftist Democratic Coalition (DK) told a press conference.

Péter Niedermüller said “it has been obvious for a long time that the EU will soon have had enough of government measures violating the rule of law”.

Niedermüller quoted European Commissioner Günther Oettinger as saying that granting cohesion funding after 2020 should be conditional on member states’ commitment to the rule of law.

The European Parliament has recently decided to set up a fund to support civil organisations, Niedermüller said, and insisted that “there are no civil groups that would settle migrants (in Hungary)”.

Some support asylum seekers’ integration, providing welfare services or offering language courses, he added. He also said that the new European fund would be made available to all NGOs.
