He said the prices of fuel and gas are ris-ing throughout Europe due to the war. As long as the war is on, prices will rise, but the Hun-garian cabinet will maintain price restrictions, he added.

Orbán announced on January 12 that the prices of sugar, wheat, flour, cooking oil, pork legs, parts of chicken and 2.8% milk would be restricted from February 1 due to the high in-flation and were reset to what they were on October 15 of last year.

Prior to that, the cabinet fixed the price of 95-octane petrol and diesel at Ft 480 per litre for three months from November 15, also cit-ing high inflation, and then extended the gas price cap on February 15 for another three months, until the middle of May.

Orbán’s announcement means that the artificially low prices will remain in effect until at least July 1.
