Potential Police Shortage Looms in Hungary
At least 4,000 police positions may be vacant in Hungary, according to data sent by the National Police to RTL.

The number of professional police staff is 36,000-37,000 employees, 90.3% of the ideal level of 41,000.

The shortage is expected to become even greater as the number of those enrolled in police training has dropped: last year, 592 applied for the two-year course, but only 460 this year, writes RTL.

In order to fill vacancies, there is a shorter, 10-month patrol training, for which 1,282 people applied in 2021 and 198 students started the training in April.

While the number of applicants may be high, one in three fail the aptitude test, Telex ads.
