Budapest Mayor Fooled by Fake Klitschko
Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony has become the latest in a series of European mayors to engage in video talks with an imposter posing as Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Karácsony himself gave an account of the incident on his Facebook page on Saturday.

He said he and his staff had no reason to be suspicious, since the call came from an e-mail address using the domain of the Kyiv mayor’s office, and they had been in contact with Klitschko’s staff.

He said the pseudo-Klitschko “looked and spoke exactly like him”.

Although the conversation was mostly about the war with Russia and the refugee crisis, Karácsony said he ended the conversation much sooner than planned, as his interlocutor asked several strange and provocative questions that aroused suspicion.

The unidentified imposter also engaged in video call conversations with the mayors of Berlin, Madrid and Vienna last week.

Karácsony said he will soon speak with the real Vitali Klitschko in a video call.
