Nearly half of Hungarians now use the home delivery services of online supermarkets when shopping for groceries, writes Magyar Nemzet
The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) said that price caps Hungary's government earlier mandated for staples such as sugar, flour, cooking oil, pork and milk, to keep inflation down were contrary to EU law in a ruling.
The government will abolish mandatory discounts on food products at big supermarkets from July 1, but the price-monitoring system will remain in place, the Economy Ministry announced on Tuesday.
Retail sales in Hungary grew by an annual 4.6% in February, 1.1% when adjusted for calendar year effects, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said.
