Emigration from Hungary at Five-Year High
An estimated 26,500 Hungarians left to live abroad last year, according to Central Statistics Office data, the highest figure since 2017.

In 2021 more people returned to Hungary than emigrated, but this trend reversed last year, as 26,500 people left and 21,900 returned.

The Statistics Office counts as emigrants those who plan to leave the country for at least 12 months.

The most popular destinations for Hungarians moving abroad are Germany, the UK, Austria and the Netherlands.
