Huge Ice Rink & Special Winter Festival Await at Balaton
A 1,200 square meter ice rink will open at the end of November in Balatonlelle, the largest ice rink on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, offering a 60-day Ice Festival for everyone who loves skating.

A heated festival tent with a capacity of 1,000 people will also be waiting for visitors with entertainment, and family and children’s programs, Turizmus.com reports.

“The artificial ice rink and the surrounding event venue will be built on the site of the 30×40 meter sandy football pitch of the Napfény Beach in Balatonlelle.

It is certain that the Ice Festival will mark a new level in the life of Balatonlelle,” said Miklós Felházi, the town’s mayor.

The largest ice rink on the southern shore will open on November 30, and will offer 1,200 square meters of ice-skating space, writes jegfesztival.hu, a website that will be constantly updated with details of the 60-day event.

The 1000-seat heated festival tent will host a variety of entertainment and concerts on Saturdays.

There will also be saunas involved, and for those who do not mind the cold there will be a chance to take a group dip in Lake Balaton.

The largest Advent fair on the south coast will be held at the venue, with handicrafts and gastronomic specialties.

New Year’s Eve programs will also be on offer, thus visitors will be able to say goodbye to the Old Year right on the shores of Lake Balaton.

Tamás Fekete, Vice President of the Balaton Tourism Association, added that the Balatonlelle Ice Festival is a good example of how to make the Lake Balaton region attractive for every season of the year.

In addition to the festival programs, a number of restaurants, confectioners and wineries will be open to welcome guests. In the future, one of the aims will be to attract Austrian, English, Spanish, and even French tourists to Budapest, and to encourage them to head to Lake Balaton.

Hungary Today

Launched online long after XpatLoop.com, this 'government-related' source states its aim is "to provide a complete, unbiased picture of Hungary”. However the site also says that this “does not necessarily mean that our writers do not have their own opinions,” which is useful for our readers to keep in mind. Another stated aim expressed is to become “the leading English-language news portal of Hungary”, which is a role that XpatLoop has successfully fulfilled independently for well over two decades. That noted, our team is open to occasionally sharing a useful Hungary Today article - with their permission of course - for the benefit of our readers.
