Introducing Majorelle: New Moroccan Restaurant & Bar in the Heart of Budapest
A fresh culinary gem that's sure to dazzle your taste buds recently opened In the heart of downtown Budapest, nicely positioned close to the iconic Parliament building. This isn't just any Middle Eastern or Arabic restaurant - it's the city's first authentic Moroccan dining experience, says the owner Mo.

Set against the backdrop of Lajos Batthanyi's eternal flame, the building that houses the restaurant has its own claim to fame, having hosted scenes from Brad Pitt's "The Spy Game" movie back in 2001. As the restaurant owner Mo eloquently put it, the flame serves as a symbol for always chasing your dreams.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a minimalist yet chic interior, infused with a touch of French elegance, with exotic aromas filling the air and curated music adding to the atmosphere. The restaurant spans two spacious floors, offering ample seating and a sense of grandeur.

The focus is on the food, which truly speaks for itself. From elegant tables and chairs to charming cutlery and plates that blend modernity with Moroccan charm, every detail has been thoughtfully considered to make the dining experience special.

As we stepped through the door, the air was filled with exotic aromas from the East, instantly captivating our senses. The carefully curated music added to the ambiance, creating the perfect setting for our experience. We were warmly greeted and treated to a delightful Moroccan tea from the thoughtfully crafted drinks menu.

Whether you're in the mood for classic cocktails, wines, or even a surprising draft beer, there's something for everyone here. And i can’t but mention the array of signature cocktails and lemonades, each one bursting with authentic flavors that truly bring the taste of Morocco to life.

A highlight of our meal was the surprising opportunity to sample a special dish - sea urchin, a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to sourcing the freshest seafood. It was a delightful surprise that hinted at the culinary delights to come. It was just a childhood dream come true to finally get to try the dish with a delicious glass of Chardonnay.

We started off with some seafood briwat which was generously filled with shrimps, beef briwat and cheese briwat where you can truly feel the Moroccan spices and flavors blending. Along the side with beef tongue which i would consider a specialty full of flavors and elegantly presented.

Then with a bottle of Moroccan red wine, we went on to our mains; we couldn’t resist to try the octopus which Mo offered as another speciality and a winner in our view that was topped with a beautiful beurre Blanc sauce and side of fresh salad.

Another main was yet another winner which is the beef prune tagine. The dish came sizzling hot in an authentic tagine dish with a side of Moroccan home made bread. The meat was so tender it would melt in your mouth and the caramelized prunes were just a bliss that we couldn’t have enough of! We definitely will come again for the desserts very soon!

The menu is constantly evolving and has a good mix of vegetarian options as well as an excellent fresh sea food menu. The business lunch menu is already quite affordable besides already having a very fairly priced menu.

Mo - a marketing professional - met Saad - an aspiring chef - a few years ago after having tried the wonderful food that Saad prepare, and together with Mo’s friend Amr decided to put their heads together to bring a taste of Morocco to Budapest and later to other parts of Europe and possibly even furthermore.

The place took a year to set up, having being inspired by the Yves Saint Laurent Park Majorelle in Marrakech, the team is dedicated to take care of all the tiny little details to bring a taste of Morocco to you.

The place is truly a delight, and even though Mo told us that there is a bit more that they are planning to do on the decoration side, we believe that it’s an elegant venue that serves well for a family elegant dinner, a business lunch or even a drinking night out taking advantage of the well built up bar. It also serves as an great venue for events as it can seat up to 80 guests on 2 separate levels.
