Composer Kurtag Wins Hungarian Public Media's "Man of the Year" Award
World-renowned composer Gyorgy Kurtag received the Hungarian public media's Man of the Year Award in Budapest.

Kurtag was awarded at a ceremony and concert marking his 99th birthday at the Budapest Music Centre.

At the event, culture and innovation minister Balazs Hanko praised Kurtag as "one of the greatest masters of the spirit of music... He surpassed classical interpretations of music by giving it a new meaning in a logical, systematic fashion, rather than self-servingly disconstructing it."

Kurtag has received the Kossuth Prize twice, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, and was awarded the Erkel Prize three times. He is also holder of the Wolf and the Bartok-Pasztory awards, as well as many international prizes.
