Update: Keleti Renovation - Major Railway Station in Budapest Now Closed

Zsolt Hegyi said railway infrastructure components that have so far slowed traffic would be fixed or replaced during the shutdown. He said the project, worth 4.5 billion forints (EUR 11.4m) had been timed to cause the smallest inconvenience to tourists and commuters.
During the project, trains to western Hungary will leave from Kelenfold, while the Kobanya Felso and Kobanya-Kispest stations will serve the country's eastern parts.

Budapest’s Keleti train station will close for four weeks from August 25, as part of an ongoing renovation, the MÁV group announced.
During the closure, no trains will depart from or arrive at the station, with significant disruptions expected on key lines.
Trains on the Győr main line will be rerouted to Budapest-Kelenföld, while InterCity trains from Pécs and Kaposvár will also arrive at Kelenföld.
InterCity services between Budapest and Miskolc, as well as the Tisza-Lake express, will use Nyugati station as their terminus.
The MÁV group said most of the project affects technical space and a minor part the passenger traffic area.
Work will be ongoing around the clock until September 20, as tracks, shunts and more than 2,000 wooden sleepers will be replaced.
In addition, 16km of the overhead cable network will be repaired.
MAV to spend over HUF 4bn on Keleti renovation
The renovation of the Keleti railway station cannot be delayed any longer, the time has come, we will begin the work from August 25, state-owned railway company MAV CEO Zsolt Hegyi said in a post on social media.
MAV said it will spend HUF 4.4bn of its own funds on the renovation project. The renovation will help to improve the operational safety of equipment and significantly reduce the number of failures and malfunctions.
The company said that train traffic at Keleti will be suspended for one month from August 25 and the traffic schedules on the lines affecting Keleti will be significantly changed from August 25 to September 20.
Modified train schedules are expected to be available from August 10 for early planning. Along the affected lines, MAV Group is establishing several transfer points throughout Budapest, which will be easily accessible from all parts of the capital by HEV, Volan and BKK services.
