- 30 Jul 2025 6:50 PM
Led by the father-and-son team of György Lőrincz Sr. and Jr., St. Andrea embodies a multigenerational legacy rooted in deep faith, tradition, and dedication.
At the award ceremony, State Secretary for Agriculture Imre Hubai highlighted the family’s close bond as a key driver of the winery’s excellence.
“The family’s unity is a vital force behind the winery’s achievements—an invisible yet powerful energy that fuels creativity, knowledge, and commitment. This spirit has helped elevate both the wines of St. Andrea and the international reputation of the Eger wine region.”
The vineyard spans 50 hectares across ten sites in the Eger region, producing around 250,000 bottles annually.
Their wines have garnered international acclaim, with highlights including:
-
Nagy-Eged 2017, selected by Decanter in 2021 as one of the Top 50 Wines in the World
-
Agapé 2018, recognised by James Suckling in 2023, further strengthening the winery’s global reputation
St. Andrea’s philosophy centres on terroir-driven production, meticulous vineyard selection, and high-quality blending, particularly under their Superior and Grand Superior labels.
Their portfolio includes iconic local wines such as:
-
Egri Csillag (“Star of Eger”)
-
Egri Bikavér (“Bull’s Blood of Eger”)
-
As well as estate wines including Napbor (“Sun Wine”), Örökké (“Forever”), Áldás (“Blessing”), and Merengő (“Musing”)
These wines reflect a harmony between tradition and personal expression, offering a distinctive taste of the Eger terroir to wine lovers both in Hungary and abroad.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the award also acknowledges the broader adaptability of Hungarian wineries to evolving technologies and shifting consumer trends - further solidifying the country’s place in the global wine landscape.
Looking to the future, the Lőrincz family is focused on long-term goals. Their latest initiative, the Egri Superior Circle, seeks to unite the region’s top producers and further elevate Eger’s standing on the international wine map.
Reflecting on his father’s influence, György Lőrincz Jr. shared:
“I am blessed to work alongside my father. To me, he is the finest winemaker in Hungary—thoughtful, quiet, yet resolute. He has faced life’s major decisions with strength and love. He teaches acceptance, patience, courage, and service.
Even in difficult times, his enthusiasm never fades. We must live our calling with faith and our daily lives with gratitude. There’s nothing more we could wish for.”
The award was jointly presented by the National Council of Wine Communities, the Hungarian Wine Academy, and the Hungarian Winegrowers’ Association.
