Ride 'Nostalgia Public Transport' in Budapest this July
- 9 Jul 2025 6:20 PM
"The general public can reach the downtown Danube banks, the historic sites and monuments of Budapest by means of, among other things, atmospheric wooden and steel-framed trams and open-top buses, while hikers in the Buda hills and visitors to the Night of the Chairlifts can reach János Hill by Methuselah vehicles", BKK told MTI.
You can enjoy the Danube panorama from the Pest embankment on Saturdays with the N2 tram, and from the Buda quayside on Sundays with the N19 tram. You can also explore other sights of Budapest with the N109 convertible bus.
According to press announcement, the N4 bus that runs through the city on weekends is a real speciality. The express bus runs from Queen Erzsébet Street via Andrássy Street to Zugligeti Libegő.
On July 12, during the Night of the Libegők, a special bus will run between Széll Kálmán Square and Libegő. The R158 retro bus has no stops along the way, you can only get on and off at the two end stations.
On July 14, the 150-year-old N60 nostalgia cogwheel train will run between Városmajor and the Széchenyihegy terminus. Those interested will be able to try the 'curiosity-filled nostalgia experience' in August as well.
At the end of July, the Ikarus 280T trolleybus will also start operating on the old trolleybus line 72, and on July 26, those interested can travel on a ZiU-type Soviet-made trolleybus between Örs Vezér Square and Öv Street / Egressy Street.
Tickets can be purchased in the BudapestGO app, at any BKK customer center, at the box office, or from the staff on the nostalgic trains. Retro fares are available at the normal fare rate, BKK said in a press statement.
