During which period the general public can learn about, among other things, the topics of mate selection and weddings, as well as the traditional folk use of plants in Székelyföld.
The first special guided tour on Saturday will use examples from the period following the change of regime to show how contemporary objects and experiences find their place in a 150-year-old ethnographic collection, and how the curator works with museum users or visual artists in the museum.
Afterwards, on July 13, visitors will be able to explore the topics of courtship, partner selection, and weddings during a guided tour of the collection exhibition of the Ethnographic Museum, during which they will be able to learn about concepts such as the staff, the bachelor party, the sad mother, and the groom's staff, they added.
It was highlighted that a very unusual guided tour will take place on July 16, during which visitors can learn how traces of sexuality are reflected in everyday objects of different cultures and learn what ethnography says about the sexual customs of traditional peoples of the world, as well as how present church morality was in Hungarian peasant society, and what stories ethnographers are silent about distant collecting trips.
According to press information, on July 17, the focus will be on the exhibition titled Székelyek: Zsolt Nagy will present the folk knowledge and use of plants in Székelyland in his lecture related to the curatorial tour.
The curator, reviewing the ethnobotanical research of the region, draws attention to some of our plant-based objects, which were also included in the exhibition, but participants can also get a comprehensive picture of folk plant categories and the possibilities of grouping plants: visitors can learn, for example, what makes a plant a cultivated plant or a medicinal plant, and what are the uses of ornamental plants and weeds.
On July 20, the focus will be on the painted and unpainted furniture of the collection exhibition: during the thematic guided tour, visitors can learn about the origin and history of the exhibited furniture, as well as their role in the exhibition.
In addition, the museum will discuss the different shapes, types of furniture and the styles characteristic of each region, the museum said in a statement on Tuesday.
