- 9 Jul 2025 2:43 PM
In Devavanya, in south-eastern Hungary, the mercury hit 38.9 C, breaking an earlier record for the day of 38.7 C measured in 2015 at nearby Bekessamson.
Monday's heat was snapped by a strong cold front, which arrived with showers, thunderstorms and hail, as well as storm-force winds nationwide.
On Budapest's Janos Hill, wind speed was measured at 137kmh, stronger than an earlier record of 102kmh recorded at the same weather station in 2020. The earlier national record was 119kmh at Edeleny, in northern Hungary, on the same day in 2008.
