Assassination Plot Against Orbán Foiled - 'Murder-For-Hire' Organiser Arrested
A man has been detained for allegedly plotting a murder-for-hire scheme against the prime minister, the National Bureau of Investigation said on Wednesday, adding that the suspect's arrest has been initiated.

The man registered on a website running on a server abroad in order to find a person who would be willing to kill the prime minister of Hungary for a financial reward, the statement said.

He allegedly made a public statement on the website in July 2025 saying that he was willing to pay in Hungarian forint or any other currency to find someone who, as he put it, was "the best contract killer", and willing to kill the Hungarian prime minister, the statement added.

The man was identified with the help of counter-terrorism force TEK and after being apprehended, he gave a full confession.

Psychiatry patient plotting PM's assassination to stay under arrest

The metropolitan court of Budapest has ruled that a man recently detained for planning to have the prime minister assassinated should stay under arrest at psychiatric detention facility IMEI for thirty days.

The suspect, who has been treated for psychiatric disorders for seven years, is believed to have attempted to hire somebody through the internet to kill the prime minister.

The suspect has admitted to having made preparations for homicide, but said he had acted inconsiderately. He also said he would occasionally have temper fits "due to the political situation and cases of injustice."
