Revealed: 'Nation’s Beer' & Craft Brewery of Year in Hungary

Beer fans across Hungary have made their choice: the official “Nation’s Beer” for 2025 is a bright, well-balanced India Pale Ale brewed by Horizont Brewing in Budapest, according to kultura.hu. The winning recipe was selected from thousands of public votes, showing both the popularity of craft beer and the growing role of consumers in shaping what’s on tap.
Horizont Brewing, one of Budapest’s best-known craft breweries, created this year’s beer by blending the easy-drinking clarity of a pale ale with the bold, hoppy profile typical of an IPA — just as voters requested. Using Superdelic, New Zealand Cascade, and Columbus hops, the brewery describes the result as “fresh, light, fruity, pleasantly bitter, and 6% ABV—refreshing without being overpowering.”
The annual Nation’s Beer initiative is organised by Beerselection, a Budapest-based craft beer shop. Each year, drinkers from across Hungary vote not just for the beer style, but also for specific flavour characteristics, before a brewery is selected to make the winning beer.
This year’s IPA was unveiled in Budapest on 3 July 2025 and will be available nationwide on draft and in cans throughout the year, until the next Nation’s Beer is announced in 2026.
The campaign also includes a public vote for “Craft Brewery of the Year.”
For 2025, the title goes to Brew Your Mind, a small-batch brewery from Szekszárd in southern Hungary, recognised for its creativity and consistent quality. They narrowly beat Szent András Brewery from Békésszentandrás in the southeast.
