Experience History in Hungary for Free: Middle Ages 'Coming to Life', 11 October
The Middle Ages will come to life at the Fékomadta Festival, which begins on the eve of October 9. This year, the free event series will last three days, and in addition to Zsámbék, both Visegrád and Esztergom have joined the program in 2025.

The Fékomadta festival was launched seven years ago by local artists and 'traditionalists' to provide an insight into Zsámbék's medieval past, traditions, and world of beliefs through an interactive all-arts event, the organisers told MTI.

Apparently, a real medieval cavalcade awaits visitors, with lots of interactive games, a medieval village, attractions and evening concerts included in the program. The festival will also revive the legend of the knight Aynard, who once lived in Zsámbék.

The event will bring the Middle Ages to life with the help of warriors, horsemen, craftsmen and musicians, and the audiences can also actively join in the events.

In addition to the Árpád-era show kitchen, band concerts, a torchlight procession in the evening, and a folk pub await visitors.

The "Road of Kings" Visegrád-Esztergom-Zsámbék historical performance tour will be organized as part of the festival , in which riders and pedestrians will participate in period-accurate equipment.

This year, the festival starts in the Esztergom Castle Museum of the Hungarian National Museum.

On October 9th, from 2 p.m., the castle will come to life with merchants, craftsmen, servants, musicians, and csepűrágós, the evening feast will be cooked in the field kitchen, while all the tools, clothing, and the gastronomy and situations typical of the era will be presented.

Participants of the historical performance tour will be welcomed so that after the royal prayer in the chapel, the feast reconstruction in the great hall and the fun in the castle courtyard can begin, and a flashlight guided tour will also be held.

On October 10, visitors to Zsámbék can participate in tent pitching and camp life with historical reenactment teams, then they will welcome the participants of the II. Visegrád-Esztergom-Zsámbék historical performance tour, and finally there will be a wine tasting and a concert by the Fandyr band.

On October 11, the Aynard clan church will open at the Ruined Church, animators dressed in period costumes and a guided tour await the participants. At noon, an Angelus prayer will be held in the Old Church with the participation of the knight and his household.

The living Árpád-era village will open in the Zárdakert from 10 a.m., potters, blacksmiths, stonemasons, and many other craftspeople will work in the open workshops.

The medieval fair will begin, drummers and bagpipers will arrive, and the Árpád-era show kitchen will also open.

The public can also join in the events, so anyone can take part in a warm-up military tournament, a medieval battle, or try their hand at archery or fencing.

Numerous historical games and demonstrations await visitors, and in addition to the bridge fighting competition, the traditional grand battle is also a popular program year after year.

At dusk, the mystical world of medieval man comes to life during the torchlight procession with huge monsters, giants, witches, and fire jugglers.

Special bands will also perform.

In the afternoon, the Hangdagasztó music-making workshop will open its doors, in the evening Zoord and Musica Veneris will perform, and then the Moldavian music of the Kontáros ensemble awaits participants.
