First Drive-Through Post Office Opens in Hungary
Magyar Posta has opened its first postal partnership in Nyíregyháza offering a convenient “Posta Drive” service. Located at 1/B Fokos Street, the fully accessible facility allows customers to take care of postal tasks without leaving their car.

A new postal partnership has opened in the suburban area of Nyíregyháza, operated by Start Nonprofit Ltd. What makes this facility stand out is that it is the first in Hungary to introduce a “Posta Drive” service.

This drive-through option allows customers to pay postal orders, send and receive letters, and carry out bank card transactions without leaving their car. While it offers particular convenience for people with reduced mobility, it is available to anyone who prefers to manage postal errands from the comfort of their vehicle.

The building also features an induction loop system, a specialist electronic device that provides clear sound transmission for customers using hearing aids. By creating an electromagnetic field directly picked up by the hearing aid, it filters out background noise, making communication during customer service significantly easier for those with hearing difficulties.

The new facility is expected to serve nearly 300 customers a day, easing access to postal services for local residents.

According to Csilla Simon, Deputy CEO for Network and Human Resources at Magyar Posta, “Magyar Posta is committed to making its services as widely accessible as possible. This new partnership is a model of how innovation and social responsibility can go hand in hand to serve our communities.”

Nyíregyháza, a city of over 116,000 residents, currently has eight post offices. Across 50 service desks citywide, postal employees handle an average of more than 4,100 customers each day.

This development is part of Magyar Posta’s new partnership programme launched in 2023, which aims to expand the postal network through long-term cooperation with external partners. With the opening of the Nyíregyháza partnership, there are now 867 postal partnerships operating across Hungary, more than 640 of which were established under this new framework.

The initiative also reflects Magyar Posta’s commitment to accessibility and the integration of employees with disabilities.

As one of Hungary’s largest state employers, the company launched its “Let’s Do It Together!” programme in 2020, focused on creating jobs for people with reduced work capacity. Today, more than 400 colleagues are employed within the organisation through this scheme.
