Under a new decree citing the law on the protection of local identity, several groups will be barred from moving to the town of 11,000 inhabitants, including those with criminal convictions for serious crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, human trafficking, forced labour, sexual offenses, and drug-related crimes.
The rules also exclude people who have not had at least one year of continuous employment, legal work relations, or social security coverage at the time of application.
This includes benefits linked to childcare and education.
In addition, individuals listed in the tax authority’s database of defaulters or those with enforcement proceedings against them will be denied.
Language is another key requirement, as anyone who does not understand or speak Hungarian will be prohibited.
Applicants meeting all criteria must undergo a personal interview in Pilis, where the town’s representative body holds discretionary power to reject those it considers unfit for “community coexistence”.
