Spa Shutdown: Iconic Gellért Budapest Closes, Nearby Rudas Baths Forced to Adapt
The Gellért Bath adjacent to the hotel of the same name will close from October 1 for a 2.5-3-year renovation, the city-owned thermal baths manager announced.

CEO Ildikó Szűts said “The mechanical engineering and the building itself are in extremely poor condition; for example, we have not been able to operate the more than 100-year-old wave machine for years.”

The renovation will require adjustments to accommodate both foreign visitors and regular guests, necessitating changes at the nearby Rudas Baths.

“From October 1, guests can use the Rudas every morning between 6 and 11 a.m. (men on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and women on Tuesdays).

The entire area of the Rudas bath, including the wellness area, swimming pool and Turkish bath, will be open to both women and men from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The Gellért closure alone means a revenue loss exceeding Ft 4 billion.

“The transfer of traffic to the Rudas will allow us the possibility to at least partly replace the lost revenue”, said Szűts.
