How Safe is Hungary? 'Safest Country in Europe', Explains Official
The fence on Hungary’s southern border, the expansion of the police force and the introduction of strict new regulations have made Hungary the safest country in Europe, Bence Retvári, parliamentary state secretary of the interior ministry, said in Tapolca, in western Hungary.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Civil Salon event, Retvári cited a September survey by pollster Ipsos ranking Hungary first in Europe in terms of public safety.

With only 7 percent of respondents in Hungary saying they were worried about being a victim of a crime compared with 57 percent in Sweden, 36 percent in France, 29 percent in Germany and 33 percent in Belgium, Ipsos’s survey showed that Hungary’s policies on public safety were "the most successful in Europe", Retvari said.

The state secretary said more and more German and Dutch citizens were choosing to live in the Danube bend area and the Balaton Uplands.

Tibor Navracsics, the minister of public administration and regional development, said in response to a question that more foreign nationals moving to Hungary had also led to the expansion and improvement of public services in the Lake Balaton area.
