Hungary to Send New Astronaut to ISS
Hungary is planning to send another research astronaut, Gyula Cserényi, to the International Space Station, the minister of foreign affairs and trade said in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, adding that Hungary had reaped great economic benefits from Tibor Kapu's mission earlier this year.

Peter Szijjarto said, according to a ministry statement, that he was scheduled to meet executives of Axiom Space, the company conducting the previous mission, to discuss the next mission in the Hungarian space programme.

"The entire Hungarian economy is reaping great benefits from the country's space research and space industry programme ... the Axiom mission conducted 60 experiments at the ISS which would have been impossible on Earth. Twenty-five of those were conducted by the Hungarian astronaut in cooperation with companies, research organisations, universities and education institutes active in Hungary," he added.

The government will continue to cooperate with the US to continue the space programme and preserve its leading position in the region in the sector, Szijjarto said. "That is another important milestone in the success story of Hungary-US cooperation."

Szijjarto said Cserenyi was trained with Kapu as his reserve. "If we have a trained astronaut, a good cooperation partner in the US, scientific results, if we see the economy is benefiting from it and we have a leading role in the region, we must carry on," he said.
