Martians in Budapest: Extraordinary Exhibition Moves to Castle District
The interactive outdoor exhibition "Martians: Hungarian Scientists and Nobel Prize Winners" has been moved from Vörösmarty Square to Szentháromság Square in Buda Castle. The exhibition will be on display at this location until November 17.

At the opening ceremony held in the Ministry of the Interior building, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior said that the exhibition at Szentháromság Square could reach a large number of tourists, so " many foreigners will be amazed at how much intellectual potential there is in Hungary."

Bence Rétvári emphasized that the exhibition has an important message for Hungarian students, that " it is worth studying and being diligent, because many Hungarians have reached the top with their knowledge."

Csilla Fazekas, Deputy Mayor of Budavár, recalled the title of the exhibition: in the 20th century, those Hungarian scientists who, upon arriving in the United States, seemed almost otherworldly with their genius were called Martians.

"The traveling exhibition coming to our district aims to bring these extraordinary personalities closer to us: it shows how the discoveries were made not only with data and dates, but also with stories, comics and short films made with artificial intelligence"- he highlighted, then continued, " we can get to know those scientists who, with their work, have shown the whole world what the Hungarian spirit and creativity are capable of ." The exhibition also reminds us that there are no new ideas without curiosity, perseverance and courage, he added.

Balázs Gulyás, president of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, said that it would be difficult to imagine a more appropriate location for this exhibition than Buda Castle, which, as he put it, is one of the most important intellectual and historical centers of the country.

The exhibition, which spans almost two centuries, showcases the defining stages of the work of great Hungarian scientists, and visitors can gain a glimpse behind the scenes of world-changing ideas, he added.

Miklós Szánthó, Director General of the Center for Fundamental Rights, said in his opening speech, The Martians exhibition is "perhaps the most Hungarian story: talent, hard work and pride are on display here, and this exhibition is a collection of tangible evidence". Being Hungarian also means that we value achievement, that we are proud of our nation, that we dare to be great - he emphasized.

Most of the more than fifty personalities presented at the exhibition can be classified into the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and economics based on their work, but the "Martians" include key figures in the automotive industry, the most creative inventors, as well as a Nobel Prize winner in literature (Imre Kertész) and a Nobel Peace Prize winner of Hungarian origin (Elie Wiesel).

The contents of the exhibition can be viewed on a monitor hidden in five man-height books, and at the photo point you can take pictures with life-size caricatures of scientists placed in the space.
