- 17 Jul 2025 5:35 AM
The announcement stated that this year's motto of the festival is, "We brought the world - we bring the future", and that its featured creators are György Kurtág and Maxim Vengerov.
"When the audience listens to this year's summer concerts of the Festival Academy Budapest, it is as if they are looking into the future through a telescope," the press information quoted the founders of the ten-year-old FAB as saying.
They added, "audiences will not only see and hear the world's current leading soloist stars on stage, but also those who will be star soloists of the world's leading concert halls in 2035."
According to press information, the central venue of the festival is the Liszt Academy, whose main hall and Solti Hall will also host several chamber music concerts and master classes.
At the opening concert on July 18, the Concerto Budapest orchestra will take the stage under the baton of András Keller and will perform works such as Dohnányi's Violin Concerto by Boris Brovcin or Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations by László Fenyő.
In addition to the renowned performers, the audience will also get to know ten young soloists, including Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in D major and Mozart's Piano Concerto in C minor.
On July 19th, an improvisational evening awaits the audience at the Budapest Jazz Club with Lajos Sárközy's band and Hanna Kelemen.
On the 20th, the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death will be commemorated with a full-day series of concerts: in addition to the composer's best-known chamber pieces, the program will also feature song cycles and his piano-trumpet concerto, performed by soloists and chamber ensembles. The audience will also be able to learn about the composer's thoughts, in a performance by actor Pál Mácsai.
On July 21, the Széchenyi Thermal Bath will host the "Bach-Beatles-Balkan" evening, where the Jupiter Ensemble, Thomas Dunford and the Söndörgő Orchestra will perform with FAB Ensemble artists, and the audience can listen to the concert from the outdoor thermal pool.
On July 22, as part of Holocaust Remembrance Day, several events will be held at the BMC: including a Mendelssohn trio and a reading theatre version of Imre Kertész's Kaddis interwoven with musical details, produced by the Imre Kertész Institute.
At the request of FAB, several contemporary composers will compose works on the theme of the Holocaust, which will be presented to the festival audience for the first time. The host is Piroska Molnár.
On July 25, as part of the Schubertiade Day, the audience will be immersed in Schubert's music from morning to evening: performances will include the F minor fantasy, the Death and the Maiden quartet, Schubert songs performed by Johannes Held, and the Trout Quintet.
The closing weekend will feature works by Mendelssohn, Bartók and Mahler, as well as chamber music rarities and grand final concerts: Maxim Vengerov will return to the stage as a soloist with the Mendelssohn Octet on Saturday and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto on Sunday.
The program will include Bartók's String Quartet No. 1, Máté Balogh's Timpani Speech, a piece written for the timpani, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Mahler's song cycle performed by Johannes Held and Gábor Csalog, and works by Rachmaninov and Enescu.
On the two Saturday mornings, Eszter Csákányi will narrate Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, while Humperdinck's fairy tale opera Hansel and Gretel will be narrated by Piroska Molnár, conducted by Andreas Ottensamer, and performed by seven singers.
During the children's concerts, the winning works from the 340 children's drawings submitted to the FAB drawing competition will be projected in the main hall of the Liszt Academy.
