Xpat Interview: Tim Etherington

I've been the owner of Klub Vittula  for 4 years and Chinese Characters CAS for 1,5 year now. I'm lead singer in a punk-britpop-folk-singsong band called Suicide Cow  and we perform about once a month. I've been in Budapest on and off for ten years, i've lived and studied in Paris and London and I grew up in Reading, England.
 
I've studied art history in Camberwell, London and the gallery is an extension of the work that I started with Vittula. Many of my employees in Vittula had studied in the FIne Art School and those that have not have artistic flair which makes it possible to show in Vittula not only bands and individual performers but also theatre and art events.
 
My aim is to see Budapest become a cultured and cultivated urban environment and for the people here to recognize it as such.

Cheap booze, sexy women, bullet holes in the buildings

Yes, Paris and London

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
People speak Hungarian with a strange accent

My pub, my gallery and my punkband

Anything made by kind mums
