The history of the Amusement Park

The history of the Amusement Park
"The Amusement Park Public Limited Company was founded in 1950, but the country's biggest theme park has got more than fifty years of history. Among its predecessors of the present Amusement Park, the Fun Fair and the English Park are noteworthy.

The Fun Fair opened at the beginning of 1800, and the elegant English Park had almost 100 years of history. Even at that time these theme parks attracted a large number of visitors, who wanted to have fun in the Municipal Park.

The present Amusement Park was created with the merger of the Fun Fair and the English Park 50 years ago. In this way the Amusement Park escaped the threat of the relocation and a total declination.

The Park had a hard life during the second World War, the Park was badly damaged, but fortunately many themes, built at the beginning of the 20th century, still operate, such as: Merry-go-round, built in 1906, and the Roller Coaster which always offers new experiences to its visitors.

Both of them are declared as a historic site. On a 6.5- acre territory the Budapest Amusement Park offers 50 different kinds of rides to the visitors. At the Main Entrance the visitors can get free brochures of the Park, with the photos of the rides. This brochure contains a Park Map in Hungarian, in English and in German as well, which makes the orientation easier in the Park.

In the past years the Budapest Amusement Park has started a great developing process, which has included the enlargement of the range of the themes.

One of the most popular rides in the park is the Looping Star, an inverting roller coaster, from Scotland. The Goalstiker the interactive penalty-shooting game and the Laserchaser were the new rides in 2004.

The Budapest Amusement Park is responsible for the following: taking care of the traditional themes, renovating the historic sites, landscaping, restoring the old artificial lake, and rebuilding the decor-pavement in the original English Park design.

One million people visit the Park every year. The management of the park has organised a lot of programmes this year, such as the official opening of the Park with a carnival. Beside the entertainment programmes the Budapest Amusement Park also stands out with its charity programmes, it many times invites handicapped and socially disadvantaged children."
