"Hungary's trade deficit was EUR 442m in January-April, EUR 38m less than a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Friday in a second reading of the figures.The new figure is EUR 22m lower than the preliminary one published on June 8, 2007 after the monthly trade deficit April was revised down to EUR 156m from a preliminary EUR 177m.
In euro terms, January-April exports rose 18.1pc to EUR 21.209bn, and four-month imports rose 15.1pc to EUR 21.65bn.
In volume terms, Hungary's exports rose 15.0pc yr/yr in January-April and imports in the period were up 17.9pc yr/yr.
Figures for April show exports rose 18pc in euro terms and rose 17.9pc in volume terms yr/yr, and imports rose 16.4pc in euro terms and April import volume was up 15.0pc from a year earlier.
In the first four months both export and import prices in foreign currency rose by about 1.5pc from a year earlier and fell 2.1pc and 2.2pc, respectively, in forint terms as the forint firmed almost 4pc from a year earlier. Hungary's terms of trade remained unchanged as forint price changes were balanced for exports and imports. As for product groups, the forint-term price for machinery and energy dropped, while prices for other products increased, KSH said."
