Sziget 2008

Sziget 2008
"The festival will take place between August 12th -18th in 2008. The organizers of Sziget Festival plan to have a shorter event with a stronger program for next year.

Sziget Festival is going to be five plus one day long. This is a result of an ongoing affair in the background. The mayor of a neighbourhood district has sued Sziget for the disturbing noise which had bothered its citizens. The aim of this type of contraction is to lighten this burden for these residents which could secure peace and create a festival that is tolerable even for the more sensitive citizens living in the neighbourhood districts.

The decision does not affect the program structure of Sziget, so the well known diverse sites and venues won’t change. Moreover the previously calculated budget will cover five days instead of seven, which means the organizers can spend more on international superstars. In addition to this the savings in the technical and other expenses of the two days made it possible to keep the price on the 2007 level. Both the day- and the season tickets will be sold for last year’s price.

Sziget will still share the ’Sziget feeling’ for seven days, while the festival will start with a warm-up day on Monday, August 11th. Although there won’t be any organized concerts on this day, the bars and pubs will all operate. On the following ’zero day’ there will be an international superstar performing on the Mainstage and from Wednesday on the normal festival days – just like in the previous years – will start with more than 60 program venues and thousand programs per day.

In the past years there were a lot people who arrived earlier to the area of the festival even though the area was officially closed. In 2008 organizers will open an area for the early visitors for an entrance fee of 10 Euros/day/person for these two days. However, it is the visitor’s own responsibility to enter the festival’s construction site and up till Monday morning 10am the area will be without services.

The Caravan Camping, exclusively for caravans and vans, will also operate officially from the 11th of August. The one week long camping site for caravans will cost (in addition to the camping season ticket of each person) 100 Euros/week. However, those who would like to set up their camp earlier can also enter on the previous weekend for the same 10 Euros/day/person – there is no additional fee for the cars.

This means the non-camping season tickets will be valid for five days. Camping tickets will offer free entrance for the zero and the warm-up day as well and those who would like to start camping earlier – August 9th or 10th – are to pay 10 Euro/day/person. Visitors without camping season tickets can also enter on the ‘zero day’ for the price of a day ticket (30 Euros) and 10 Euros for the warm-up day. Caravan camping will offer its services( August 11th -18th ) for 100 Euros and 10 Euro/day/person for the previous days (August 9th or 10th)."
