József Attila In The States

József Attila In The States
"Translators Gábor C. Gyukics and Michael Castro will tour the States from the end of January to the beginning of March to present their volume of Attila József's poems entitled A Transparent Lion.

The first of these presentations will take place in Los Angeles, where the book was published by Green Integer Press (see publisher's publicity page). From there the translators will proceed to San Francisco, where poet Tom Stolmar (well known to visitors of Budapest's Sziget Festival) will join the them at the Adobe Bookstore.

Afterwards, all three are to be the guests of postbeat poet Jack Hirschman at the Beat Museum. Then, they will visit Moe's, the most popular bookstore at Berkeley, and hold lectures at three Saint Louis, Missouri, universities on translating poetry, on Attila József and on contemporary Hungarian poetry. Gyukics will also participate in a reading at a local gallery with local poets, including Native American poet Crater Revard. (Revard himself has already visited Hungary at Gyukics’ invitation.)

In Dallas, they will present the book at a local literary club, as well as to the local Hungarian community. In Savannah, Georgia Gyukics plans to hold two literature seminars at the local university and a reading at the university café. After a twelve-hour bus ride, New Orleans literature lovers will have a chance to meet him and experience Attila József at the Fair Grinds Café.

The final leg of their tour includes Washington and the Hungarian Embassy, then New York, and finally Williamsburg, accompanied by poet Ira Cohen and musician JD Parran."
