'The Secrets Of Folk Music', Festival Theatre, 17 February |
"In the old days, a “téka” in Hungarian was a storage place in both aristocratic residences and peasant houses where people stored their valuables and important documents. The “téka” prevented others from accessing them while remaining usefully to hand when required. The Téka Band was formed thirty years ago, and they chose this name because they wanted to preserve the greatest values and most developed treasures of Hungarian folk music.
To preserve but not to conceal. Quite the opposite! Téka frequently performs in Hungary and abroad to broaden the appeal of this music which was transmitted among village folk from father to son.
In those days before radio and television, there were no sound recordings, the villagers made their own instruments and played them themselves, they sang and they danced. Since then, life has changed immensely; there is less to distinguish villages from cities while television has opened a window on the entire world.
Nor is there any requirement for home made instruments. But there remains a need – if not a greater need than ever before – for musicians who can gather and preserve these valuable treasures and traditions of old peasant music. The Téka Band will be offering some of these beauties at these events. Ticketprices: 1100.- 1300.- HUF Travel Checques, Sodexho Culture Vouchers and Palace Gift Vouchers are also accepted at the Palace of Arts Ticket Office when purchasing tickets for this concert."
